Alumni Use of Challenge Coins

By: Amanda Griffin

RMA’s Advancement office assisted the Alumni Association design an association’s chairman’s challenge coin. At our Academy, the President had a coin, but the alumni did not. The coin is used in three primary ways:

  1. It is mailed or given to any alumnus donor of a gift greater than $250
  2. It is awarded to any alum in recognition of achievement or special gifts of service to the Academy
  3. A coin is given to each graduating senior at their last breakfast before commencement in a solemn ceremony attended by only the senior cadets and alumni who can make it to the breakfast. It is their official introduction and welcome into the Alumni Association.

The coins that are given to donors are mailed with a printed note from the chairman, which includes a brief summary of the challenge coin’s history.
