Four Riverside Prep Wrestlers Medal in GIAA State Tournament

Gainesville, GA – The Riverside Prep Eagles Wrestling team soared high, celebrating after a tough weekend of GIAA wrestling in Americus, GA. Riverside advanced seven wrestlers from sectionals to compete in the state tournament, and four received medals at the coveted state podium.
Junior Armand La Douceur won first place in weight class 138. Khoi Phan, a Sophomore and first-year wrestler placed fourth in weight class 106 and was the second-highest scorer of team points. Sophomore Diego Jusino placed 5th in weight class 120 and was recognized during the finals as causing the only loss endured by the finalist of the opposing team, having a record of 24-1. Senior Zach Miller placed sixth in weight class 285, giving up at least thirty pounds each match. Miller had a tremendous showing.
Overall, Riverside Prep placed sixth in this 24-Team Tournament. On Saturday, February 11, Riverside Prep will compete in its final meet of the season, the GIAA State Duals at George Walton Academy in Monroe, GA, taking on the largest and highest-ranking teams starting at 9 a.m.
