Missouri Military Academy to Host JROTC Drill Competition on Jan. 15

MEXICO, MO — January 6, 2022 —Missouri Military Academy (MMA) will host its first-ever MMA Drill Competition on Saturday, January 15. Competitions will take place in Centennial Gymtorium and the Alain M. Garcia Almada ’06 Field House located on MMA’s campus, 204 North Grand St., Mexico, MO 65265.

At the Jan. 15 event, JROTC drill teams will compete in different classifications in each of the following divisions: Armed Regulation Drill, Unarmed Regulation Drill, Armed Color Guard, Unarmed Color Guard, Armed Exhibition, and Unarmed Exhibition. Events will begin at 8 a.m. and continue throughout the day. Select events will be recorded and shared later on MMA’s YouTube channel.

Teams are evaluated based on the formation commander’s command voice and presence, drill sequence timing, the formation’s ability to execute drill commands, the difficulty of commands, and the pacing, sequencing, military bearing, personal appearance and energy of cadets.

The Fusileers exemplify excellence in military leadership, structure, discipline and class. Holding the title of one of the Academy’s oldest extracurricular teams, the Fusileers continue a decades-long tradition that hinges upon teamwork and commitment. At the 2021 National High School Drill Team Competition (NHSDTC) — competing in the US Army Drill National Championship and the All Service Drill National Championship — MMA’s Fusileer Drill Team placed first in the nation in Armed Regulation at the All Service Nationals Master Level and first in the nation for Armed Color Guard for both the All Service Nationals Master Level and the US Army Drill National Championship.
