Dr. Mark P. Ryan currently serves as the Superintendent of the North Valley Military Institute College Preparatory Academy, where he has served since 2014. He was previously the Commandant and then Superintendent of the Oakland Military Institute College Preparatory Academy from 2007-2014. Prior to that he worked as a Program Specialist for the San Bernardino City Unified School District, a teacher and instructional coach in the Los Angeles Unified School District, and as a teacher and administrator in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He was the principal of Saint Matthias High School when it earned prestigious Blue Ribbon School recognition.
For more than 30 years, he served in the California State Military Reserve and California Cadet Corps, retiring in 2014 as a Lieutenant Colonel. For fifteen of those years, he served as Assistant Executive Officer of the California Cadet Corps, and his military awards include the Order of California, the California Medal of Merit, the California Commendation Medal, and the California Cadet Corps Distinguished Service Medal with Gold Oak Leaf Cluster.
He holds an earned Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in Curriculum, a Master of Science Degree in Educational Administration, a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies, and California clear teaching credentials in elementary multiple subjects, single subject physical education, health, introductory mathematics, designated subjects basic military drill, and administrative services.
