Principal – Utah Military Academy, Camp Williams’ Campus
Academy: 7-12 grades, Title I school, enrollment 400+ students; location Lehi, Utah
Compensation: $95,000 to $105,000 plus benefits, depending on experience. A moving allowance will be made available by the Board of Directors, as needed.
Minimum requirements: Master’s Degree with a minimum of five years of experience of proven instructional leadership as a Dean, Assistant Principal, instructional Coach, or two or more years of experience as a principal. Classroom experience at the middle or high school level is preferred. At least three years of classroom experience required. Prior military background is ideal, not required.
We are seeking an experienced and outstanding leader to serve as our principal. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong, student-centered instructional leadership skills focused on student growth and achievement. Our students need to graduate prepared for college, though we have substantial CTE/STEM programs. This means that many of our students work aggressively towards various certificates, internships, and direct employment in technical fields upon graduation. A strong commitment for supporting these paths is essential.
A successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong record of managing people and careers. This includes mentoring, conflict resolution, decisive decisions, and comfortable with resolving parent concerns. Leaders must remain calm, focused and build confidence within the team. Focus on classroom instruction, meaningful teacher observations and feedback is essential. Strong experience with MTSS and remediation is essential.
Educational and Program Management
Supervise instructional and curriculum services to address student achievement
Devise, implement and evaluate instructional development programs
Engage and make primary recommendations on the hiring, retention and possible termination of all instruction and teaching staff
Supervise teachers and aides, regularly observe classes and groups, and coordinate the development of training programs in methods, content, and structure
Oversee initial assessments for new students
Implement effective educational process through the collection and interpretation of student data
Work with the Executive Director, Business Manager and other administration on the purchase, distribution, and evaluation of curriculum materials
Manage the instructional professional development program
Classroom Management and Organization
Train teachers in methods of classroom preparation to enhance instruction as prescribed by charter’s curriculum and methods, with a focus on Teach Like a Champion
Train teachers and instructors on how to manage student behavior in agreement with the school’s code of conduct and related policies and programs
Share responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in all areas of the school, including pick-up and drop-off, recess, lunch, assemblies, field trips, and other responsibilities as assigned.
Assist students with disabilities to encourage their access to full participation in the school’s regular programs
Coordinate with the Special Education Director on student Individual Education Plans to ensure all modifications are met
Ensure that Special Education Director attends regular LEA meetings provided by the State and follow up on content of trainings
Keep abreast of changing laws and regulation that apply to Special Education
Ensure General Education teachers are trained on Special Education needs of students and the school’s vision of inclusion
Ensure annual and periodic special education data uploads and reporting meets appropriate state and federal requirements
Develop and implement a consistent plan to oversee and assess teachers, instructors, aides, support personnel, special education, and other staff in the performance of their duties.
Evaluate the effectiveness of outside service providers
Evaluation and Reporting
Provide/receive student performance measurements to/from classroom teachers who will keep an accurate, up-to-date record of student performance and progress throughout the year.
Meet with parents as requested to discuss needs and progress of students.
Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
