(P.E. Instructor & Athletic/Sports Coach)

About the Intermediate Preparatory Academy: New Mexico Military Institute’s (NMMI) middle grades school, Intermediate Preparatory Academy (IPA), offers a unique curriculum incorporating immersive/intensive and hands-on learning experiences within a structured environment. In Fall 2024, IPA will extend its enrollment to include 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, with a total enrollment of approximately 90 students.

Position: The Physical Education (PE) Instructor and athletic/Sports Coach at the Intermediate Preparatory Academy (IPA) will fulfill a multifaceted role focused on the physical development, fitness, and overall well-being of students typically aged between 11 and 14 years. This person will provide instruction in physical activities with a primary focus on life-long wellness/bodily health/mental health. The PE Instructor must fulfill at least one athletic/sports coaching assignment per academic school year. This is an exempt, 9-month, full-time position. The salary is based on experience and education level. The job description is available upon request.


Designing and implementing a physical education curriculum that aligns with the NMMI-IPA mission.

Encouraging all students to participate in physical activities, regardless of skill level.

Educating students about the importance of a healthy lifestyle, including physical fitness, nutrition, an mental well-being.

Other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills:

Staying current with developments in physical education and health education.

Participating in professional development opportunities and workshops.

Work under the direction of the IPA Head of School and NMMI Athletic Director to promote health, fitness, teamwork, and exemplary leadership.




Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Physical Education, related discipline, or equivalent evidence of subject area knowledge.

Teaching license or equivalent evidence of pedagogical knowledge.

Two years of Physical Education teaching experience at the middle school level or equivalent evidence of ability.

CDL or willingness to obtain one.

New Mexico coaching license.


Master’s degree.

Interscholastic Coaching Experience.
