Essential Job Functions And Requirements

  • Will maintain exemplary professional standards
  • Assist the Commandant in the development of Fork Union Military Academy’s culture
  • Oversee Disciplinary system for Corps of Cadets
  • Oversee the Disciplinary Review Board
  • Evaluate and assess demerits
  • Review Special Reports
  • Assist TAC Officers in daily operations, as needed
  • Communicate with parents regarding cadet performance
  • Communicate with departments on campus regarding cadet and employee needs
  • Counsel Cadets who are experiencing conduct issues
  • Analyze and evaluate the progress and development of Cadets and present verbal and written reports
  • Confer with faculty members to discuss academic issues that may relate to conduct
  • Oversee the Leave and Day Pass Program
  • Oversee the Transportation Program
  • Oversee the Probation Program
  • Maintain cadet and Commandant’s Department regulations
  • Screen candidates submitted for Cadet Corps promotion
  • Assist the Commandant in the development and facilitation of the leadership and character development curriculum
  • Supervise the execution of leadership courses taught each academic year
  • Assist the Commandant during special events
  • Assist the Commandant in the training and development of Cadet Officers / NCO’s
  • Assist the Commandant to create, maintain, and assess Fork Union Military Academy’s award process
  • Assist the Commandant with scheduling and oversight of competitions and military ceremonies
  • Assist the Commandant with accountability of Cadets, both on and off campus
  • Oversee Fork Union Military Academy’s Drill & Ceremony
  • Performs additional collateral duty as assigned

Fork Union Military Academy Job Description

Special Task: The Deputy Commandant has the delicate task of managing the lives of young men from various backgrounds and circumstances, as students come from all over the world. These students can often be overwhelmed, especially boarding students who are thousands of miles from home. A balance of strictness and empathy is needed. The Commandant and Commandant’s office promotes firmness and fairness with all decisions and governs Cadet conduct and performance in accordance with the school’s mission and the regulations.

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred. Certification as a military instructor, or certified drill instructor/drill sergeant (or civilian equivalent) is preferred.

Qualifications to Include: 10+ years of military experience, specifically in training and instruction, or equivalent civilian experience is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and have effective written and oral communication skills. Qualified candidates will be able to climb three flights of stairs and carry at least 35 pounds. Must be able to obtain a CPR/AED certification within 60 days. Service members who were Honorably discharged, retired veterans with service (Title 10) permission and who are within the height/weight and personal appearance standards are permitted to wear the appropriate service uniforms and maintain their rank versus the FUMA uniform/honorific rank title.

Work Schedule: 0600-1800 M-F. Additionally, there is a rotation of Saturday and Sunday personnel who are assigned duty from 0700-1530. Commandant’s Department Personnel are on-call 24 hours a day; 7 days a week.
