Activities and Recreation Specialist Position
Missouri Military Academy (MMA) is seeking a full-time energetic and creative Activities and Recreation Specialist. This individual works with cadets during the school year and campers attending our various camps during the summer. This position reports to the Commandant (Dean of Students). Candidates are expected to embrace the military educational model that is based on structure, self- discipline, and accountability, and provide appropriate activities and field trips to encourage and motivate students. Candidates are expected to support and encourage a positive learning environment characterized by relational teaching, high expectations, mutual respect, goal setting, and esprit de corps. Candidates should be realistic and excited about the demands, challenges, and rewards of teaching and working in a military boarding school “family like” environment.
Candidates should have a sound understanding of best practices in providing challenging and educational recreational activities for grades 7-12. Experience as a camp counselor, and/or with scouting and youth programs is preferred. Candidates must have or willing to obtain certification in rappelling, high and low ropes, water safety, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Working weekends will be required as needed; with equivalent time off granted during the week. A commitment to the academic and social/emotional growth of young men is essential. The ideal candidate would possess excellent administrative, planning, and organizational skills and be able to successfully work with parents, colleagues, company leadership advisors, and cadets in a professional manner with a sense of purpose. Military experience and expertise in outdoor activities, life guarding and water safety, and sports coaching experience is a plus.
Faculty and staff members are expected to participate in wide-ranging activities across the campus including: club sponsorship, student life activities, as academic advisors, and chaperones to various events. This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, impeccable integrity, mature judgement, patience, multitasking, and a passion to work with young men. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Activities and Recreation Specialist or related field. A master’s degree, teaching andmilitary experience, and Red Cross certification are a plus.
The salary range for this position is $38,000 to $50,000 based on education, certifications, experience, and job skills related to qualification requirements. MMA offers competitive benefits to include sick leave, two weeks paid vacation first year that increases based on employment longevity, 403(b) retirement with matching up to 5% after second year of employment, medical and life insurance, and many others.
