Faculty – Band Director/Music Instructor

Position: The Band Director/Music Instructor reports to both academic and corps leadership on campus. Must also work directly with and communicate regularly with the DCO and Commandant of Cadets for all band activities involving the Corps of Cadets; including, but not limited to, preparing the training schedule, scheduling buglers, parades, ceremonies, inspections, special events, community support, and cadet activities/trips. The Band Director/Music Instructor works closely with the Commandant’s Staff, Faculty, Coaches and Activity Sponsors to ensure each band member’s balanced participation in Band, Corps, Academic, and Athletic activities. Salary is determined based on the level of degree and experience. Job description available upon request.

About New Mexico Military Institute: NMMI is a state-supported, co-educational college

preparatory high school and junior college, complete with Junior and Senior ROTC programs. With a Corps of Cadets numbering up to 1000 young men and women, NMMI provides an accredited college preparatory curriculum on the high school level.

Responsibilities:

 Instructs in the following academic disciplines: Music, Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Music Appreciation; and coordinates regimental band’s(headquarters troop) activities/operations/leadership with the DCO and Commandant

  •   Teaches a full load as defined by the Faculty Handbook and participates in service work and professional development
  •   Recruits and retains band members, including any related travel and plans/hosts summer band camps Other duties as assigned

Essential Skills:

  •   Be familiar with and abide by regulations established in Faculty Handbook, the NMMI Operations and Procedure Manual, and the Corps of Cadets Manual
  •   Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions competently with minimal direct supervision
  •   Demonstrate a capacity to convey substantive knowledge, maintain intellectual rigor, and manage a classroom setting
  •   Demonstrate strong communications skills and a willingness to be collaborative and cooperative

Qualifications:

  •   Experience in both high school and college music instruction is preferred
  •   Experience in marching band is preferred
